I am a multidisciplinary artist working in photography, abstract art, and printmaking. In high school, photography inspired me to start seeing things in an artistic light. Putting the blinders on and forcing me to look for high-contrast scenes and hidden meanings in the day-to-day lives of myself and those around me
Over time, I also became fascinated by the inner workings of cameras. Collecting long-forgotten relics purchased at yard sales, flea markets, and antique shops. Bringing them back to life and observing how every camera gives you a slightly different photograph.
Old neon signs of defunct businesses cry out to be photographed. The same way that broken-down barns need to be captured on film before their inevitable return to the soil. The photographs catalog a time unknown to myself and modern society.
Some of my photos demand an even more powerful representation. So I transform them into linocut prints. The shaky lines and chatter that occur in lino printing add character and texture that does not exist in a 2D photo.
After years of painting houses for customers, I was inspired to paint for myself. Over time, I developed a style and approach all my own. In my abstract paintings, I attempt to reveal portraits, or hidden creatures that are masked by vivid colors and flowing lines. My paintings give the viewer the freedom to choose what they see, much like someone who sees hidden animals in the clouds.
The fragility of human existence motivates me. How rapidly time passes due to work and daily responsibilities. In my art, I strive to seize the moment, reflect on it, and then record it on a canvas, a piece of film, or a block of linoleum. Hopefully encouraging the viewer to slow down and savor the moment as well.
